![]() They use a glass box to show a clean look and old crunchy leaves that are a dark color to show that leaves are worn out. Technique: The artists uses a really interesting technique in order to convey their message and express what they want to convey. In this piece he uses leaves from nature and shapes them in an unnatural shape, like he tends to do in many of his pieces. This is how the concept is shown since the leaves were trapped and overtime lost their beauty.Ĭontext: The artist likes to create sculptures out of things from nature, he doesn’t like to make his work look like it is natural, but he still uses things from nature to create his work. In addition they have lost their color and smoothness. The pice is on a medium scale, since it is not very big, but still not too small.Ĭontent: The main context is the concept statement of “When things are trapped, they loose their beauty over time.” This can be seen because the leaves are squished together inside of a glass box. There is a sense of unity since there is essentially a square inside of a square, and a major flow throughout the entire piece. Subject Matter: The subjects of this piece are leaves that are bind together in a square shape, and a glass box that is around them.įorm: The artwork has a simplistic arbitrary construction, the texture of the glass box is very smooth while the leaf box is very crunchy texture. All in all this piece shows that in nature there is repetition, yet if you look closely you can see how nothing in it is truly repeated.Ĭoncept: “When things are trapped, they loose their beauty over time.” All of the vines coming out are a different size. All of the purple flowers and white flowers have their petals folding at different lengths and directions. This is what is clear in the sculpture completed below since although it looks like a mandala and is very repetitive every bit of it is still different. Every flower is also a different size, and while they may be the same color they still show differences in their stems and petals. This is not true though since every tree is unique in the amount of leaves it has, and in the size of its trunk. They look and see hundreds of trees, a lot of flowers that look the same, and more bland repetitive things. The Concept statement for the first Goldsworthy based sculpture is, “Although Nature is repetitive, when looking closer ever detail of it is extremely unique.” This is because when one looks at nature they get lost in the on the surface details. In all when one looks in the unexpected places in this piece, they will then see the beauty. The green border helps signify the shape of the tree stump and the overall shape of the piece. Also there is an overarching green color seen with the leaves and vines. There is a variety of different colors, and a few sporadic flowers through out the piece that are pink and white which truly give it a pop. Yet, when one takes a step back it is clear that there is great beauty. ![]() All in all there is a lot going on in this sculpture and if you only look on the surface, it is easy to get lost. ![]() There is a pile of all different colored rocks, and there are leaves and vines surrounding it in a messy order. The concept statement of this Goldsworthy based sculpture is that “Beauty can come from unexpected places.” When you take a first glance at this sculpture, you most likely will look at it and see a mess of things.
